We landed in balmy Siem Reap Cambodia today, the gateway to the Angkor Wat temple complex. Our guesthouse sent a tuk tuk driver to the airport to fetch us and he sold us on the idea of getting up at 4:00 to catch the sunrise at Angkor. Of course, he'll drive us. The guesthouse, Seven Candles, is simple, clean, and (so far) relatively quiet. It is run by a Cambodian family that started an educational foundation The Ponheary Ly Foundation (theplf.org) to help educate Cambodia's impoverished children. We hope to visit a school while we are here and donate some money, time or both.
Everyday has its adventures and today's was what to eat for dinner and not get food poisoning. Unfortunately I read a blog that had me scared to eat anything. We chose "Mr. Grill" and I had sliced steak and fried corn and Luci had a beef stir fry. With drinks the total came out to $10.25. Now I just hope the cleanliness standards were inversely proportional to the cost.
After dinner we continued to take our lives in our hands and went for a walk along the river. The walk was fine, crossing the streets, not so much.
