Yesterday was our last full day in Taipei. We went to the Museum of Contemporary Art which featured some very interesting independent films. It was the perfect place for a East Asian Studies / Cinema Studies major with an overarching interest in Art to spend an afternoon. We then wandered the city a bit, found a small noodle shop where we had arguably our best meal - Rory and Luci did a great job using their rudimentary Mandarin to order off the menu. Then we were off for bubble tea and then back to the hotel. Merry, Luci and I then had a final turn at a Taipei Night Market and off to bed wondering if the HK airport would be open in the morning.
As we were going through security I noticed how we were the only white people in the whole line. Its very interesting to go from a place where we are the majority to a place where we are so much the minority that little kids stare unabashedly. I am cognizant that how we behave reflects on all Americans (and I hope we give a better reflection than what people see on the news).
We now sit at the gate waiting for our plane. I am not too worried about our time in Hong Kong. I hope we will be able to avoid the protests and get Luci her student visa without too much hassle. You can keep reading the next few days to find out what happens!
Thanks for reading!
