Another early morning as we headed off to the market with Dani Jump, an American living in Cambodia since the 90s. Early for us was late for many as the market was in full swing when we arrived. After seeing how tofu was made (in a family business) and an amazing glass of ginger tofu with coconut milk, we headed into the crowed alleys of the market. All manner of food was here: Fruits, including the foul smelling king of the fruits the durian. Vegetables, many of which I was unfamiliar with. Fish still wriggling. Eels, eggs, frogs skinned while we watched. Chicken after plucked chicken, beef, pork including pigs heads, duck embryos and, of course, flies. It was an amazing barrage to the senses. We ate a delicious plate of noodles with eggs and vegetables and a rice bun filled with bean paste for breakfast. We washed it down with sugar cane juice flavored with lime and orange. As we walked around we saw a woman with fried tarantulas sprinkled with chili - Luci and I thought tarantula was tasty. Dani never lead us astray, confidently navigating the congestion, pointing out interesting stalls and interacting with their proprietors. I only saw one other group of westerners, a family. We were off the tourist map.
