Day 3
We woke up to the sound of gibbons in the trees above our shelter. During the night, Jonas had gotten sick, no one was sure from what. He was so excited to go tubing and rafting, I felt really bad for him That it would not be as enjoyable.
We ate a banana pancake for breakfast and then got ready to go tubing on the river. We carried big truck tubes to the top of the rapids and then, two to a tube, floated swiftly through them. Unfortunately, the river was a little low so I felt quite a few boulders on the way down.
After tubing and a relaxing swim, we ate lunch, placed our packs in waterproof bags that were secured to the raft and got ready to say goodbye to the jungle.
Before we could leave we had a surprise visit from Jackie the orangutan and her two babies. They picked up some melon and pineapple rinds and stared at us while they ate. Jackie shared her food with her youngest baby, giving it a bite and then taking one herself. The older child had food in both hands and one foot, just as any two year old human would try to do. It was the perfect ending to our adventure.
The rafting down the river rapids was just icing on the cake.
Pictures on Facebook, soon.
Tomorrow, more adventure awaits in a village near the sea in Northern Sumatra.
